Isle of Skye

Welcome to the famous Isle of Skye, home of the legendary Flora MacDonald

Yes, this is the island that the legendary heroine Flora MacDonald took Bonnie Prince Charlie over the sea to as he escaped from the British Army in 1746 –a story now captured in the globally successful Outlander TV and book series. The Isle of Skye is the stage for this and many other daring tales of bravery and tragedy throughout the centuries. With us, you can visit the Fairy pools, get a real sense of history at the home of the MacLeod clan, Dunvegan Castle, and wonder at the natural beauty of the Old Man of Storr, a pillar of ancient Caledonian rock that rises almost statue like from the ground. You can also stay at Portree, the capital of the island, with its multi coloured houses and welcoming hotels and restaurants

f you feel like some hill walking or climbing, you can test your skills on the Cuillins ridge – it links the vast Cuillins Mountains together across the island – but if you just want to relax, enjoy the culinary delights of some of the most welcoming hotels and restaurants in Scotland or maybe learn some of Scotland’s native language at the Gaelic college in Sleat in the south of the island. There are also outdoor pursuits for many – adventure tourism offerings or a chance to see golden eagles, red deer or wild salmon making their way up the many rivers on the island.

If you want something more up to date, travel the island and see the many, many film locations and compare how Hollywood has used this natural film set to full advantage. At the end of your stay, pop back over the bridge to the mainland or pop on to the ferry at Uig to start your visit to the Outer Hebrides.

Now one of the UK’s must see destinations, a visit to Scotland isn’t complete without a trip over the sea to the Isle of Skye.
